CUT AND POLISH BRISBANE - PAINT CORRECTION BRISBANE

  • INSPECT

Before any work begins, the vehicle’s paintwork is thoroughly inspected under proper lighting conditions. This step helps identify the condition of the clear coat and any imperfections such as swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, or stains.

A detailer may use inspection lights or paint depth gauges to assess how much clear coat is available and determine the severity of defects. This evaluation ensures that the right level of cutting and polishing is used without risking damage to the paint.

  • CUT

The "cut" stage involves using an abrasive compound with a cutting pad and machine polisher to remove a thin layer of clear coat. This process eliminates surface-level imperfections like light scratches, swirl marks, and faded or dull paint. It essentially levels the surface to create a smoother, more even appearance.

The type of compound and pad used will vary depending on the paint hardness and defect severity. It’s a corrective stage designed to restore the paint’s clarity and prepare it for polishing.

  • POLISH

After cutting, the surface is refined using a finer polish and a softer polishing pad. This step smooths out any haze or micro-marring left from the cutting process and enhances the gloss and depth of the paint. Polishing restores that deep, mirror-like shine and brings out the true colour of the paintwork.

In some cases, a paint sealant or wax is applied afterwards for added protection and to lock in the shine.

What can a cut and polish do?

As a Brisbane cut and polish professional, I love a single step, two-stage or multi-stage cut and polish! This is also known as a paint correction process that can dramatically improve the appearance of your vehicle’s exterior. Over time, your car’s paintwork can become dull (often with some white marks/chalkiness) or damaged due to exposure to the elements, poor washing techniques, or simply general wear and tear.

A paint correction, or cut and polish can:

  • Remove light scratches and swirl marks that make the paint look tired or hazy

  • Eliminate water stains, which are often caused by hard water drying on the surface and leaving behind mineral deposits - ever washed your car and let the water sit with the QLD sun on it?

  • Reduce oxidation, where the paint appears faded or chalky due to sun exposure

  • Minimise minor scuffs or marks, including those from car washes or contact with bushes or other surfaces

  • Restore gloss and depth to the paint, giving your vehicle a like-new shine

By removing a fine layer of damaged clear coat and then refining the surface with polish, a cut and polish reveals a smoother, glossier, and more vibrant finish. It’s a highly effective way to rejuvenate tired paintwork and increase your vehicle’s visual appeal—without needing a respray.

There are some things that a cut and polish can’t fix - these are mostly deep scratches (that have gone through the clear coat and especially through the paint work) and areas where the clear coat has failed.

Brisbane Cut and Polish FAQ

  • Oxidised, more commonly referred to as chalky paint is a very normal issue caused by prolonged exposure to the Australian sun, water, and oxygen. Which breaks down the outer layer of your vehicle’s paint. It’s especially noticeable on white, red, and black cars. We treat this kind of paint damage using our single-stage or dual-stage correction packages, designed to restore colour, clarity, and shine.

  • Have you noticed fine scratches (normally in a circular pattern) in your paintwork that seem to appear under bright light or direct sunlight?

These are known as swirl marks, and they’re typically caused by improper washing techniques. For the most part, these swirl marks originate during the drying stage and sometimes when washing with a dirty cloth. However, my experience is people trying to clean/dry their car without enough water/foam on the cars paint. leaving behind a web-like pattern that can be frustrating to see.

In most circumstances, a single stage correction can remove these swirl marks. If the marks are heavier, then a two-step process might be required.

  • Wear a watch, ring and jewelry on your hands for long enough and it will transfer/scrap onto your cars paint. That’s what an Entry Mark is.

While they can be tricky to remove, they don’t have to be permanent.

Our cut and polish service effectively reduces or eliminates these marks, restoring a cleaner finish. If you're preparing to sell your car, a professional machine polish is an excellent way to enhance its visual appeal and increase its resale value.

  • As described briefly above, a water spot is treated water thats dried on your cars paint. Normally speaking, rainwater will not cause this, as it’s pure with no additives. However, water from your tap if dried via the sun will cause water marks. These marks are extremely hard to remove without “cutting” them with a polisher.

  • You may have had your car that little bit too close to your fence, or another car - perhaps a steel bollard (yellow normally!) and you’ve just touched it. Now, your car has some hard to get rid of paint.

This paint transfer can easily be polished off, but depending on the transfer level (how hard it was hit/touched) there could be scratches to your cars paint underneath

  • Trail Sighs or Trail Marks are found when your vehicle has gone off road and on tighter trails - where foliage can rub up against your car causing light scratches or blemishes.

Some can be removed via a quick polish - that come off with only 30 minutes of work - others are deep and ingrained in the paint can require multi-hours of work. My experience with trail marks is normally an in-person inspection to give you a price

  • Yes the word poop also makes me laugh.

Most people would see bird droppings on their car and not really worry - but bird poop is very acidic and can easily burn through your cars paint. If you see bird droppings on your car, I highly recommend washing off with water even if it means stopping in at a local petrol station to wash it off.

if it’s gotten to a point where it’s burn through and caused damage - a cut and polish can limit the damage, but often it’s permeant
